Background

Ryan grew up on a dairy farm near Whanganui and has always had a strong passion for the environment and outdoors — both professionally and recreationally. He studied AgriScience at Massey University, managed a Sheep and Beef farm in Marton for three years, and worked for the Regional Council as a Land Management Advisor before founding agMaps.

Ryan is a systemic thinker, adept at integrating new farming technologies for maximum production, efficiency, and sustainability. He has a unique blend of skills in agriculture, soils, and GIS — enabling him to implement technical solutions and communicate them practically on-farm.

Continuing to grow agMaps across New Zealand, delivering certified farm plans, LUC mapping, drone surveys, and freshwater farm plans to farmers from Northland to Southland.

2021

Founded agMaps

After years working in the field, Ryan founded agMaps to deliver high-quality, farm-scale mapping and planning solutions directly to NZ farmers — practical, fast, and farmer-first.

2018

Land Management Advisor — Regional Council

Worked as a Land Management Advisor for the Regional Council, developing a deep understanding of NZ freshwater policy, regulatory compliance, and on-farm environmental planning.

2015

Farm Manager — Marton

Managed a commercial Sheep and Beef operation in Marton for three years, gaining hands-on farm systems experience across livestock, pasture, and land management.

2012

Bachelor of AgriScience — Massey University

Graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of AgriScience, majoring in Soil Science. Built a strong foundation in soils, land use, and the science that underpins practical farm planning.
